SAM ROBERTS-SMITH
Baritone
Sam Roberts-Smith is a WAAPA graduate and has recently completed his first season at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in Germany. After completing his university studies, Sam took a full time position with Opera Australia, firstly as a member of the Young Artist Program before joining the Principal Artist roster.
Even at this early stage of his career, Sam has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the operatic world including Leo Nucci, Patricia Racette, Simon Keenlyside, Stephen Costello, Charles Castronovo, Anja Harteros, Carlo Rizzi and Richard Bonynge.
Both in Australia and abroad, Sam has built an impressive catalogue of operatic repertoire, with performances including La Boheme, Lakme, Eugene Onegin, Tosca, Manon, La Traviata, Carmen, La Sonnambula, Madama Butterfly, Fanciulla del West, Il Torvatore, Le Nozze di Figaro, The Magic Flute, Bliss, Rigoletto, and Don Giovanni.

Sam has enjoyed much success on the competition circuit and is winner of numerous prizes and awards including being chosen as the Australian representative at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition, winner of the Marianne Mathy Scholarship: The Australian Singing Competition, Joan Sutherland Society of Sydney Award, Symphony Australia Young Vocalist Award, Opera Foundation for Young Australian’s Deutsche Oper Berlin Award, and various prizes at the International Paris Opera Awards.

In 2019 Sam sings the role of Marchese d'Obigny - La Traviata for West Australian Opera, The Brahms Requiem – Sydney Philharmonia Choir, Figaro (role debut) - Le Nozze di Figaro – Australian International Opera Company, and has recently performed for the Life Like Company in Sweeney Todd.

Sam makes his Lyric debut in the role of Hargrave in the 2019 production of Barry Conyngham's FLY.
