SHAKIRA DUGAN
Mezzo Soprano
Shakira Dugan, mezzo soprano has established herself as vibrant and gifted operatic performer. She is currently a Young Artist with Victorian Opera and Emerging Artist in the Richard Divall Emerging Artist Program with Melbourne Opera. Prior to this, Shakira was the recipient of the White Family Scholarship and the Sylvia Fisher Scholarship. She graduated from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree.
Shakira made her operatic debut with Victorian Opera playing the role Hansel in Hansel and Gretel in 2017. In 2018, her roles include a reprise of Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Watkin Wombat in the Magic Pudding the Opera, William Tell, covered the role of Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier and recently made her international, and role debut as Cherubino in Australian International Production’s Le Nozze di Figaro. On the concert platform she has performed in Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Hero’s and Villains for Victorian Opera.
Other operatic highlights include performances of The Little Sweep, Little Joe in Brundibar, Theresa II in Four Saints in Three Acts, Smeton (understudy) in Anna Bolena, Emilia (understudy) in Rossini’s Otello, Lohengrin, The Flying Dutchman and The Snow Queen.
Shakira has demonstrated fabulous versatility and is a wonderful youthful asset to the classical music industry.
Shakira makes her Lyric debut in the role of Margaret in the 2019 production of Barry Conyngham's FLY.
